An ecotone is a transition area between two adjacent ecological communities that share characteristics of both. Our ecotone areas are a combination of Pine Rockland and Tropical Hardwood Hammock species. The Hardwood Hammock ecotone bordering the Pine Rockland has a different microclimate than the rest of the Tropical Hardwood Hammock and shares some of the plant species that can be found in the Pine Rockland. Changes in flora, fauna, and elevation are also noticeable here.
