This tour allows the visitor to see the wide-open expanse of the Prairie, an old Prairie town, Egypt, the Ellis Bridge monument near West Point, Waverly Plantation on the Tombigbee River and, in Columbus, the Stephen D. Lee House and Friendship Cemetery.

The best View OF THE PRAIRIE is along Alternate Route 45, south from Okolona. Take Route 41 South from Okolona and follow the sign up the ramp for Alternate Route 45. Reset your odometer at the bottom of the ramp.

Alternate Route 45 is a four-lane road. At 7.5-7.6 miles, you will see a sign for Egypt on the right Take the first left turn to cross the highway EGYPT is about a mile ahead. Egypt was burned in 1864. There was also a sharp battle here in early 1865, in Grierson's Winter Raid. General Samuel Gholson lost an arm here, defending Egypt.
