Information

Elliott-Donaldson House, 109 Church Street

You can turn around at the ballpark. Return to Church Street and turn right. Pass the sign for Okolona High School. On the left, at the top of the rise, turn into the parking lot of the Dollar General store. You can park here and walk across the street to the left for:

Site 7—the ELLIOTT-DONALDSON HOUSE, Beauwood (1850), at 109 Church Street. If you walk across Church Street you can get a better view of the house. Soldiers carried Colonel Jeffrey Forrest's body here an February 22 or 23, 1864, where it remained until funeral arrangements were
complete in Aberdeen, the home of his wife. General Forrest was later brought here to recover from a wound he suffered at the Battle of Harrisburg (Tupelo), July 14, 1864. Mrs. Forrest joined him here then. Both returned for a short stay after the war as the guests of Colonel Shepherd, the owner. The house is being restored. Today, Forrest would recognize its external appearance.
