FIURolando · 27. The Firebush Is A
Firebush (Hamelia patens) is a large shrub named for its flame-colored flowers and red-tinted leaves. It has been frequently used in our surrounding pollinator gardens because of its beautiful flowers that attract many hummingbirds and butterflies during the spring and summer. A notable visitor to our firebush plant is the Zebra Longwing Butterfly, known as Florida's state butterfly. The plant's mature height will depend on where it is grown. In South Florida, it may reach up to 15 feet tall, though it can easily be kept at 5 to 8 feet.
