In 1906 a small group of men and women in Decatur began holding Christian Science services in their homes. In 1936 Charles H. McCauley of Birmingham was contracted to design a church building. Ground was broken on the brick Art Deco style church in May and its dedication service was held in October 1936. The sun filled edifice has large stain glass windows of soft colors that feature the cross and the crown encircled by Christ Jesus’ words, “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons.”
Light refreshments will be available for tour attendees.
