Like the marker just down the road, we don't have much additional information about Forbes Camp or Shawnee Cabins. Consider this another marking point along the original Forbes Road. It is possible this encampment was named for a nearby Indian village where the Shawnee camped out while trying to escape the Potomac Indians in the early 18th century.
The Shawnee Cabins plaque was dedicated in 1930. It reads: "At this point the Forbes Road leads Southwestward to the Eastern Slope of the Allegheny Mountains, 8 ½ miles from Fort Bedford."
