Information

The original home to the American Legion National Headquarters was constructed on the northwest corner of the mall. Completed in 1925, it was the first building constructed on the Plaza, and initially served as the national headquarters for the American Legion. In 1950, the Legion moved across the mall to the new American Legion National Headquarters on the northeast corner. The building then became housed the Indiana Department of the American Legion, the American Legion National Auxiliary, and the Indiana American Legion Auxiliary until 2014.

Today, this building is home to the Indiana Veterans Center, which is a federal, state and local center that proudly provides countless services to Veterans in one location.

Services and Assistance

  • Medical and healthcare enrollment
  • Housing for homeless veterans and their families (available through a collaborative program with the Department of Housing and Urban Development)
  • Permanent housing (available through VA Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH)
  • Representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office to answer questions regarding veteran benefits from filing a claim to burial benefits

In addition, the center provides technology access and abundant space for training, staff meetings and conferences. Veterans are encouraged to come and use computers and the Internet as needed.
