The Highbury Community House and Early Learning Centre was once the local New Zealand Police Station. The historic wooden jail cells are still intact at the rear of the property, though not generally accessible to the public.
Walking toward the next stop you will pass other commercial buildings that were once home to businesses before the suburb’s commercial centre shifted to Highbury. This includes the Fishers Building, erected in 1928. The large two-storey commercial building at 100 Hinemoa, on the corner of Rugby Road, was built in around 1910 for W. F. Ross’s General Store.
Cross Hinemoa Street at the crossing and then turn south and cross Rugby Road.
