Address: Located at the corner of S. First Street and E. Broadway Ave in Fulton (near Lock 2 of the Oswego Barge Canal).
This historical marker is located in the Village of Fulton near where the old Fort Bradstreet was located. If you were traveling the Oswego River some 240 years ago, you would see a grand fort on the east side of the Oswego River where the current Huhtamaki factory is located today. The British built the fort in the early years of the French and Indian War. The fort was one of many built to protect the British supply route from Albany to Oswego from French and Native American attacks. The fort was constructed in a star shape, consisting of retrenchments with a ditch and a block house in the center. The fort was occupied between 1759 and 1767. The ditches that were part of the fort were visible until the construction of the Oswego Canal in 1828. It was also an Iroquois Indian burial ground before Fort Bradstreet was constructed and was a portage area between 1600-1828.
