You may also want to visit the FRIENDSHIP CEMETERY (662-328-2565) in Columbus, where Lee and other Confederate generals are buried along with more than one thousand Confederate soldiers. The cemetery is at the end of Fourth Street South, near the Tombigbee. From Seventh Street North, turn right onto Main Street. Turn left onto Third Street South, right past the Welcome Center (on the left). Turn left onto Seventh Avenue South, then right onto Fourth Street South. The cemetery will be on your right "Decoration Day" began here on April 25, 1866, with the decoration of both Union and Confederate graves. The Union graves have since been removed. A Confederate nurse, who may have worked at Okolona, is also buried here.

The quickest way to return to Okolona, or Tupelo, is on Route 45 North, through Caledonia and Aberdeen. North of Aberdeen, watch for the Okolona sign and Route 41.
