GM Flint Sit Down Strike

At 8 p.m. on December 30, 1936, autoworkers occupied the General Motors Fisher Body Plant Number One in Flint, Michigan, by sitting down. The autoworkers were striking to win recognition of the United Auto Workers (UAW). They were also fighting for a fair pay system, a grievance procedure and a safery workplace.The strike lasted 44 days. Workers were victorious when GM agreed to recognize their union and negotiate a first contract.
