Go through the gate, following the path until you get to the salute cannon in front of the main building.
" The great merchant Harald Plum, who owned Torø from 1917 until his death in 1929, had a salute cannon erected, which was used to salute when particularly prominent guests came to the island. It is a revolving cannon for 5-6 shots. It has been out of use since Harald Plum's death."
Harald Plum made his fortune selling canned foods during the 1st World War. After the war a collapse in commodities prices coupled with the loss of government contracts crippled his companies. The original buildings date back to 1822 but a fire in 1982 destroyed them. A major renovation took place in 2020.
Do not approach the buildings- it is private property and owned by the Copenhagen Teachers Association and today used as a childrens holiday camp. Keep along the path in the direction of the sea.
