The current Glenfield Library was the first such structure erected in Glenfield. It was built in 1974 shortly after the community became part of Takapuna City. Prior to its opening, Glenfield residents were part of the County of Waitemata, which had no libraries on the North Shore. Locals who wanted to borrow a book had to travel to Birkenhead or Northcote. But since these were different cities or boroughs, they had to pay an annual subscription fee to use the service. Joining Takapuna City naturally appealed to the more studious residents since it meant they would have a nearby library where no subscription was required.
Cross Bently Avenue at the crosswalk and continue up the hill to Glenfield Road.
