Lived at: 3111 South Ellis Avenue Private Charles H. Griffin enlisted on January 5, 1864, at Camp Douglas and served in Company B 29th Regiment, U.S. Colored Infantry. This Company was known as the "Fighting 29th." Griffin received his basic military training when he enlisted for the Civil War at Camp Douglas, which also served as a Union Induction Center.
