This is the former home of George Marott, an English immigrant who came to Indianapolis and started a shoe business, and later built the Marott Department Store on Massachusetts Ave. By 1910 he had a net worth of over $2Million. In 1926 he built the Marott Hotel—with its breathtaking view of downtown and the White River with its grand bridges. In 1983 after being boarded up for two years, the Hotel reopened as the Marott Apartments reconfiguring the building’s 78 hotel rooms into 240 apartments.
