Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences (The Old Pathological Institute)
It is located in Caine Lane, Sheung wan. It started operating in 1906 and it was known as the Bacteriological Institute.
In the late 19th century, there were limited facilities and resources for bacteriological studies. People didn’t put much awareness on public health at that period. Until 1906, because of the plague and other infectious diseases, the permanent premises were established to meet the need and it was named the pathological institution. The main function of it was to produce vaccines until 1970.
With the amazing red-brick structure, it was declared a monument in 1990. And now, it becomes a medical museum and allows the public to visit.
