Joe Dallaire was born in Eganville, Ontario, attended barbering school in Renfrew and moved to Richmond in 1914. His business started in the rear kitchen of James McCarthy’s home (harness maker), then moved to a rented home on the present McBean site. After a fire destroyed the home in 1916 Joe purchased the lot with help from the Orange Lodge and built a shop with living quarters there. He gave over 312,000 haircuts over his 60 plus years of operation. He was also Richmond’s first fire chief and a school board trustee.
