Created By: Legislative Assembly of Ontario
Built between 1842 to 1845, the King's College building was the first structure constructed on this site.
Founded in 1827, King's College was the forerunning institution to the University of Toronto. Toronto religious leader John Strachan had acquired the land in what is now the Queen's Park area for the placement of the university during the late 1820s. Approximately 16 acres of land was acquired, including private right of ways to the area from Queen Street to the south and Yonge Street to the east - those right of ways are now University Avenue and College Street, respectively.
