#283 Mountain Laurel
Quilter Gail Sexton
Sherry Schell’s family discovered the Table Rock area in 1989, when they decided to leave Atlanta to design and build a bed and breakfast fulfilling their dream. When they found eleven acres with a view of Table Rock Mountain, their vision was complete. The Schell Haus B&B was ready to open its doors to guests in 1990. After several years, they realized additional space was needed to accommodate the needs of all visitors in the Upstate. Scenic Highway 11 is 130 miles long and the Laurel Mountain Inn is right in the center. Sherry and her husband, George, then designed and built a small, five room motel next door to the B & B. Surrounded by Mountain Laurel bushes and their gorgeous blooms, gave the inspiration for the name of their new motel, Laurel Mountain Inn, which has welcomed guests since 1994.
