Information

FIURolando · 10. Live Oak Is A Large

Live Oak (Quercus virginiana) is a large, picturesque tree usually graced with Spanish Moss strongly reminiscent of the Old South. Back when wooded ships were used, the bark of the Live Oak was preferred for its hardiness. This tree is notably tough and can withstand hurricane-level winds. Because of this, many people plant Live Oak to protect fragile areas. If not for practical use, people covet them for their lovely appearance in a large-scale landscape. Live Oak has the broadest spreading of any oak species, reaching around 60 to 100 feet of deep, inviting shade. Whether it be the focus of a yard or densely populating the Tropical Hardwood Hammocks, this tree provides food and shelter for several birds and squirrels.
