One of the largest department stores in the world. Built in 1902, the building measures 2.2 million square feet and was the first building in the world to have the modern day escalator. The wooden escalators are still in use today! Macy's used publicity devices such as a store Santa Claus themed exhibits, and illuminated window displays to draw in customers.
Macy's has sponsored its Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, the world's largest parade. The tradition started in 1924 tying it for the second-oldest Thanksgiving parade in the United States.
