Edward Malloch, MPP, land speculator, mortgage broker and county sheriff, purchased this lot in 1834. But a house was not built on it until the 1860’s or 70’s, when an attractive wood frame, clapboard farmhouse was built, with gable roof and limestone foundation. The former summer kitchen and shed have been replaced by a modern apartment addition. It is thought that it was Edward’s wife Margaret who built the house for her mother, the well-known innkeeper, Maria Hill.
