Masonic Hall

Built in 1871 at the corner of Albany and George Streets, the Masonic hall was designed by Augustas Hatfield and modeled after Philadelphia's City Hall. The hall was home to a number of organizations and businesses, as well as a large theatre known as the “Opera House of New Brunswick.” The first concert was performed by the New Brunswick Choral Society on November 24, 1873. On december 21, 1896 the hall was destroyed by a large fire. The Masonic Hall placed New Brunswick on the map as an important theatrical city in the State of New Jersey.
