Information

The Musée L is located at the heart of the liberal arts college of Louvain-la-Neuve.

With permanent and temporary exhibits, the museum has an educational and research role.

The university context explains the diversity of its collections. In thirty years, the Museum has quadrupled its heritage and considerably developed its educational, exhibit and event policies (evening receptions, concerts, conferences, creative workshops, etc.).

A "dialogue museum"
In the permanent exhibit space, dedicated to the Delsemme legacy, the works of famous modern painters, like René Magritte and Paul Delvaux, echo or clash with works from all different cultures and continents.

Quiet, a museum ? Not in Louvain-la-Neuve, where the Musée L makes artworks talk to each other : a Buddha next to a medieval Christ, ancient writings alongside calculating machines... The UCL museum, with 32.000 items in its collection, explores some new and unusual encounters that tell us about the world and our humanity. Art works are not the only thing on display: the museum also presents the UCL’s scientific collections. Natural history specimens, archaeological and ethnographic objects and scientific inventions are all on show in 2,600 m² of exhibition space at the heart of a building that is a landmark of modern Belgian architecture. Museum L is not like other museums: it is a place of living dialogue and exciting discovery.

An art and civilization museum
The peripheral arts (popular art, naive art or raw art) were not forgotten! At any moment, visitors can discover a part of these collections, in the civilizations section or 20th century art section.

Large collections
The collections, presented in rotation, cover domains as varied as the engravings (Dürer, Van Dyck, Goya, Rodin, Picasso, etc.), the 20th century Belgian art (notably abstract art) and sculpture, from Antiquity to the “primitive arts” of Africa and Oceania.

Open from Tuesday to Friday from 9:30am to 5pm and the weekend / the holidays (excepted days resumed below) from 11am to 5pm.
3rd Thursday of the month, evening until 10pm.
Closed on Mondays, Whit Monday, 21 July, 15 August and from 24 December to 1st of January inclusive.
