Next to the Cullingfords were 25 acres owned by John Gracie, who ran the first carrying service in the district using a large dray and four horses. Gracie was active in the community as a member of several clubs, and he helped organise fruit shows and other events. He also was a member of several political action groups and a voice for the Labour party on the North Shore. Some of his sons worked at the Chelsea sugar refinery and his youngest, Alexander, died fighting in World War I.
The Gracie property was eventually sold to property developers in 1938 and become one of the first dedicated housing subdivisions in Glenfield.
Continue to Glenfield Road and turn left.
