The North American black bear isn’t always black- their fur can also be gray or brown. They aren’t aggressive unless provoked and are known for their ability to climb in order to escape threats. They eat all through the spring, summer, and fall in order to build up fat for the winter. However, they are not true hibernators, but they do spend winters in caves for protection against the cold. North American black bears are the most widespread and numerous bear in North America, with a population over 500 thousand.
