North Square Park

Boston and The Dual-Powered King of the South

North Square Park

Boston, Massachusetts 02115, United States

Created By: Volunteer JW Boston

Information

This small park once held barracks for British troops at the time of the battle of Lexington. These troops were mustered in the square the night of the expedition, and sentinels, posted at all the entrances, turned the citizens from the spot. The preparations for this affair were so secretly conducted that Gage hoped his intentions would escape discovery until the blow (At Concord to capture weaponry) was struck.

Colonial spies were already aware of the plan and watching for movement, which allowed them to beat the British to Concord.
