Okapi have a chestnut-colored coat with white legs and stripes on their legs. Although resembling a zebra, the two are not related. The okapi’s closest living relative is actually the giraffe. They are generally solitary, with males and females only coming together to mate. Although the existence of the okapi was known throughout Africa, the western world was not aware of it until around the turn of the 20th century.
