Originally it was built in 1871 as a Volunteer Fire Department. It contains the original Hook and Ladder fire wagon used near the turn of the century. A large hand hammered megaphone was used to direct the bucket brigade. A flag pole used to stand in front of the original firehouse. The bell would toll at times of death, one bell for every year of age of the person who had died. It fell victim to the flood of 1955. The replica of the original FireHouse was reconstructed in 1976. Donated materials and volunteer labor and donated money went into this project.
