POW Barracks
Look closely in the brush to the left of the path. You'll notice the foundation or a temporary barracks building. 33 such temporary structures helped support fort activity during WWII and have since been removed. This foundation is from a barracks which housed Italian POW's during the war. Around 1,000 prisoners called Peddocks home from 1944-45 and worked in the Charelstown Shipyard loading supplies on ships for the war effort. Many went on to serve in the US army, gaining their citizenship. Some married local girls and settled in Bostons North End.
