Parade Ground
The forts parade ground saw many drills and inspections and served as baseball, soccer, and football field as well as a boxing ring locale. This open space has always been an important part of the forts layout. In fact, the Board of Officers gave written instruction that:
"...Any encroachment on this for any building purpose would make the parade very restricted for a six-company post, as well as mar the appearance of the post as seen from the water.”
By the 1970's much of th eParade Ground was overground and it has since been painstakingly restored to its original openess.
This point of interest is part of the tour: Peddocks Island: Historic Fort Andrews
