Peace Palace - International Court of Justice

The Hague, South Holland 2514 JP, Netherlands

Created By: Stadswandeling Den Haag

Information

The Peace Palace was founded in response to the idea of Tsar Nicholas II. In the second half of the 19th century, nations spent a lot of money on the military and navy. In 1898, Tsar Nicholas II considered it important that all nations could come together in a place where dialogue and international agreements are central. He chose The Hague as the city for this. Dialogue and international agreements would lead to prosperity and progress instead of division and enmity. On 28 August 1913, the Peace Palace was opened by Queen Wilhelmina.

Right in front of the gates of the Peace Palace, you can find the World Peace Flame. Try to find the gift from the Chinese Embassy in this monument.
