Information

FIURolando · 2. The Pigeon Plum Is A

The Pigeon Plum (Coccoloba diversifolia) is a fast-growing tree that lives in full sun or partial shade doing best on moist, well-drained soils. These trees get their scientific name from the great variation in leaf size, especially in young saplings. Pigeon Plums are evergreen trees that might be considered somewhat messy in urban settings due to the number of leaves it sheds and grape-sized ‘berries’ it drops in the winter. In a more native habitat such as the Tropical Hammock, leaf litter composed of fallen leaves and other dead plant material act as a source of nutrients for the soil.
