Pine Rockland Expansion

Following the success of our first prescribed burn, we scouted other areas that lent themselves to the inclusion of the Pine Rockland ecosystem. The Pine Rockland expansion area within the Nature Preserve was once connected with the central Pine Rocklands. However, with the construction of the Pine Rockland loop, it became disconnected and fell victim to succession into a Rockland Hammock. In the restoration of this area, the hardwood species were removed to create an open canopy for the pine trees and understory species to flourish.
