The attraction of this building is not what is on the outside, but what is on the inside. Upon entering, if you look to the right there is a mural measuring 18 feet by 8 1/2 feet. Painted in 1942 by Lumen Martin Winter it is titled "Threshing in Kansas". Money for its painting was provided by the New Deal Arts Program. Artists from around the country submitted entries to be decided on by a committee of local professionals.. This mural is unique in Kansas in that it was painted directly onto the plaster wall, all others were painted onto canvas and then hung on to walls. Looking closely at the mural, you will notice typical scenes of harvest. The process of harvest time is well depicted and the landscape is dotted with standard midwest farm buildings.
