Aberystwyth used to be famous for its Post Office delivery workers, able to carry large bags over long distances in all weather conditions. They would be shipped to work all over England and Wales. This 1922 video is from annual Boxing Day selection race. Boys would compete to become Post Office deliverymen, a prestigious, well paid and secure job at that time. They were not allowed to run but had to walk a huge 10 mile delivery route. The quickest were offered a place at the Post Office Training College in Cathays Park, Cardiff.
