Information

Akenawaka and Tomapamelaut, two Delaware temperance preachers from the Munsee-Delaware nation in Ontario, Canada, attended a temperance meeting here at the Quaker Meeting House during their visit to Norwich in December 1885. As a partnership, these preachers visited hundreds of towns and villages across Britain.

They were touring Britain in part to raise funds to erect churches and schools in their nation. During their time in Norwich, they also visited Carrow School, where they spoke to students and teachers, sung some hymns, and made a collection, "a goodly sum on behalf of the object for which they have come to England, namely funds for building a Sunday School for Indian children." (Norwich Mercury)
