Joyland Park was owned and operated by W. C. S. & S. Amusement Co–a group of African American bankers, businessmen, and attorneys– and served Black people who were prohibited from entering Whites-only amusement parks in the city. Joyland Park was much smaller than the city's premier amusement parks of that time; Riverview and White City. It occupied a plot of land and featured only four major rides; a merry-go-round, Venetian swing, the whip, and a Ferris wheel. The park only remained in operation for two seasons, closing in 1925.
