The rehabilitation of Solar da Música Nova, designed by architect Victor Mestre, from the VMSA architects studio, won the 2nd edition of the Regional Architecture Award – Algarve 2022, in the “Rehabilitation” category.
The main objective of the intervention carried out at Solar da Música Nova – formerly owned by the Barros e Aragões family – was to reinstall educational and cultural use in the two-story building, dating from the 19th century. XVIII, now acquired by the Municipality. The property, occupied for years by the philharmonic band “Música Nova”, was in an advanced state of degradation and was the subject of extensive renovation.
This space now comprises three distinct areas: Loulé Music Conservatory – Francisco Rosado and the headquarters of the Artistas de Minerva Philharmonic Band and a Municipal Auditorium. In addition to safeguarding the building and strengthening identity ties with the city and cultural memory, the objective inherent to this recovery was to improve and reinforce the infrastructure to support music teaching.
