The construction of this station was completed in 1900 and overseen by the first president of the Indianapolis Water Company Thomas Armstrong Morris. He spearheaded the construction of the Riverside Pumping Station and the sand filtration beds at the White River Station near the canal aqueduct, which made Indianapolis one of the first large cities to treat its water. The pumping station remains in use to this day. An article from 1924 states that the station has six pumping units, a smokeless chimney, a snow reciprocating steam pump, and a huge vertical triple expansion pump.
