When arriving at Rooney Library, gaze upon the exterior of the main entrance of the building where you are greeted by Our Lady of The Woods, a high bas relief carving by German artist Adolph Gustav Wolter that was envisioned by Sister Esther Newport. Make your way inside the building and journey to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Archives, located on the lower level, to view The World Reflected at The Woods display that highlights people, cultural expression, and global art that have contributed to the ongoing globalization of The Woods since its French founder, Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, first arrived in 1840.
A previous The World Reflected at The Woods temporary archive display included the original and only photographed image of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin and the sewing basket of Sister Mary Joseph Le Fer who was one of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin's confidants (future archive displays will be announced here when available). The Woods' study abroad initiatives and mission trips representing various countries within Africa, Asia, South America, and Europe. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College's global alums from 1840 - now includes more than 50 countries worldwide.
