The oldest church in continuous operation in the county is located about 4.5 miles northwest of Paragon near the Morgan/Owen county line.
While there are churches in the county that rival its age, Samaria Baptist Church has been in continuous operation since 1829. Around 1835, a log meeting house was constructed, which was later replaced by the current structure in 1860.
Made from local timber, it is believed to one of the earliest framed buildings in the area.
