One of Pekin's pioneer settlers was named Samuel P. Higginson, who lived in a house on Lots 16 and 17 of Block 3 of the Original Town of Pekin. Those lots are located on the north side of Susannah Street about midway between Front and Second streets.
The image associated with this point of interest is a detail from an 1877 aeriel depiction of Pekin, showing Block 3 of the Original Town of Pekin between Susannah and Sabella streets. Higginson's property (Lots 16 and 17) are just above the center of the image.
Higginson was superintendent of a distillery that was on the Pekin riverfront just down the street from Higginson's house.
In 1854, Higginson and his business partner Porter were sued by Charles Walker & Sons. Abraham Lincoln was retained by Porter & Higginson.
