All over David Fortier Park you will find sandstone that was cut from quarries in this area. From this sandstone they built buildings like the Bonsey building. You can see small buildings all over the park area that are built from the very sandstone that was cut from here.
Before there were refrigerators, people needed to find a way to keep food cold so that it would not spoil. They built buildings like this one. It is a thick-walled, cool, dark place that would slow the melting process of ice. It's not as good as a refrigerator, but you'd be surprised how long they could keep things cool. Do you remember seeing another one back in town?
