Slabtown
Centre Street is in the section of the village known as "Slabtown". Running from the corner of Concession and Bedford Street up to the base of The Mountain to the Methodist Cemetery, Slabtown got its name from the abundance of slabs that were always laying around from the many sawmills in the area. Children would use these slabs as boards for the rinks they made on the pond and called their team "The Slabtowners".
