Small pond on City land that might support recreational fishing

Information

If the water is high and the vegetation is not too tall, look across the Rio to see a small pond that holds water year-round (in most years, anyway). The pond lies on City land, and the City, Arizona Game and Fish Department, and other partners may stock the pond with fish and develop access for anglers and other visitors, creating a popular amenity like Frances Short Pond. The project will only happen with a lot of planning, public engagement, and hard work.

A small prairie dog colony thrived here (on the slope between the Rio and I-40) from 2010 to 2015. It was founded by colonists from the Little America dogtown in 2010 and flourished until plague wiped out both the main colony (point 15) and this smaller satellite colony.

For 2 miles downstream from this point, the Rio de Flag flows on private property. The owner of the first mile (Little America/Sinclair Oil) welcomes nonmotorized visitors to enjoy the land.
