Split Rock Quarry was first etablished around 1834 and became the home for most of Syracuse's hazardous munitions for World War I around 1915. Then, in 1918, the plant suddenly exploded and killed more than 50 workers. The only parts of it that can be seen today are the rocks themselves and the rock crusher. Visiters to the area today are said to have heard voices and footsteps that have no explanation to them and some even say that they have heard the eerie sound of the rock crusher starting to rev up as if the workers are starting their days just as they did over 100 years ago.
