St. Andrew’s was the first Presbyterian congregation in Carleton County. Its ministers were mostly itinerant preachers until the first wooden church was constructed on this site in 1847. It was replaced by the present brick church and spire in 1884. It has several Gothic Revival features such as the arched windows and entrance and the three-bay façade. It was supported by several of the village’s most prosperous merchants and became the religious, social and cultural centre for Presbyterians in the village and surrounding farms.
