St Cuthbert’s Church was built in 1950 as the first Presbyterian Church in Browns Bay. The original structure was a simple fibrolite building with a corrugated iron roof that appeared in many ways as a larger version of some of the bachs and homes in the community. After only a few years at its original location, the church was moved to its present site by Rev E. Walsh. In 1965, a larger and more modern structure was erected at the front of the property and the original church became St Cuthbert’s Church Hall.
After serving the community for over fifty years, the original church building was demolished in July 2004 to make room for a two-storey hall, which features community spaces and a family centre. Around the same time, the church was renamed Browns Bay Presbyterian Church. It continues to serve the community today through weekly worship services.
