St. Edward Catholic Church ~ Corner of Bedford & Concession Streets
The cornerstone of this church was laid on August 31, 1859. The spire is 150 feet high topped by a cross measuring 15 by 11 feet. The church building is of Gothic Revival style. It has a high vaulted ceiling, large pillars and a beautiful choir loft. The church’s location on the sloping hill with its corridor of maple trees adds a great deal to the beauty to the setting.
St. Edward Trivia: The approximate cost at the time of construction was $21,000.00 with the interior plastering alone costing around $3,200.00.
